Amsterdam-Noord heeft de ambitie uitgesproken de organisatie van niet één, niet twee, maar drie grote wielerrondes naar de stad te halen. In het project 'Amsterdam-Noord Demarreert' werkt de gemeente de komende jaren aan de voorbereidingen van de Grand Depart van de Tour de France, en de tijdritten van de Giro en de Vuelta. Amsterdam stelt zich kandidaat voor 2025. De Tourorganisatie A.S.O liet na aanmelding weten dat wanneer het project slaagt, het de eerste keer in de wielergeschiedenis is dat een stad de tijdritten van de drie grote wielerrondes organiseert in één jaar.
Portefeuillehouder Sport Esther Lagendijk verklaart de ambities; "Amsterdam Noord ontwikkelt zich in hoog tempo, demarreert zou je kunnen zeggen, naar het nieuwe centrum van Amsterdam. In Noord wordt het meeste bijgebouwd van de hele stad, maar tegelijkertijd heeft het stadsdeel veel natuurschoon, landelijke wegen en oude dorpskernen en dus heel veel moois in zich. Dit willen we graag met de wereld vieren. De uitgestippelde route geeft een geweldig inkijkje in het verleden en heden van dit deel van Amsterdam".
Het 25 kilometer tellende parcours is met zekerheid verrassend en spectaculair te noemen. De start is vanaf een pont op het water en meandert via industrieel erfgoed, historische stadswijken, landelijk groen, pittoreske dorpjes en dijken naar de finish aan het IJ. De renners worden getrakteerd op een groot aantal scherpe bochten, smalle straatjes en venijnige kasseienstroken. De finish is opnieuw aan het water met uitzicht op de oude binnenstad en tussen een nieuwe stadswijk en een historisch tuindorp in. Lagendijk: "De finish staat symbool voor waar wij in Noord voor staan; namelijk, een prachtig verbonden deel van de stad waar iedereen zich thuis voelt, kansen krijgt en meedoet. Wij willen daarvoor graag vol op de pedalen."

Councillor of sports Esther Lagendijk explains the ambitions; "Amsterdam North is developing at a rapid pace, you could say North takes pole position, as the new center of Amsterdam. North is the fastest growing city district of Amsterdam, but at the same time it has a lot of natural beauty, rural roads and old village centers. We would like to celebrate North's beauty with the world. The mapped out route offers a great insight into the past and present of this special part of Amsterdam."
The 25-kilometer course is certainly surprising and spectacular. The course starts from a ferry in the water and meanders through industrial heritage, historic city districts, rural greenery, picturesque villages and dykes towards the finale on the IJ. The riders are treated to a large number of sharp turns, narrow streets and nasty cobblestone lanes. The finish is on the water with a view of the old town, between a new city district and a historic garden village. Lagendijk: "The finish symbolizes what we stand for in North; a beautifully connected part of the city where everyone feels at home, gets opportunities and participates. In order to achieve our ambitous goals we pedal full speed ahead."
